Developing Research Capabilities The plan is for the programme to be funded by sponsorship outside the Core Programme.
The thrust of this programme is to fill gaps in the inventory of analytical tools and techniques available to study the Northern Ireland economy. While there is extensive software available for analysis some techniques require significant investment in constructing basic frameworks and data sets that can form the foundations of a variety of investigative programmes.
The main project for the programme at present is a collaborative effort with the Centre for Public Policy and the Regions, headquartered at the University of Strathclyde and the University of Glasgow to examine the feasibility of developing an Input / Output Model and associated tables for Northern Ireland. The project will also look at the possibility of extending this work to cover computable General Equilibrium models of the Northern Ireland economy.
